Snow Day

This morning at the fire station, I got up early to read and drink my coffee, when I noticed that the world outside my window was blanketed in snow. The ground was covered in a pristine layer of white, a stunning reminder of God’s great power and creativity. Of course, I had to go outside and take it all in, I was struck by the beauty of it all, the entire landscape had transformed. It was quiet and still, with the snow absorbing all the sound.

It was completely peaceful outside. Everything looked completely different from when I went to bed as if God had draped a blanket over the city.  The color white represents purity and renewal. This renewal felt significant, echoing the covering of His love.

Isaiah 1:18  “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”

As I walked through this winter wonderland, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. The trees stood tall and majestic, their branches adorned with white, and I was reminded of God's love covering us in every season. This morning, my heart was expectant, ready for a breakthrough. I reflected on the miracles I am expecting, knowing that just like the snow, they often come unexpectedly. These gifts may not always be visible, but like the snowfall, they are often just around the corner.

For the kids, snow days are an exciting adventure. They get to stay home from school to play in the snow and enjoy the snowflakes falling from the sky.  They have the joy of getting to build snowmen and have snowball fights. As adults, we wake up grumbling about shoveling the driveway or worrying about slippery roads and bad traffic. Yet, at this moment, I find myself longing for that childlike excitement.

Matthew 18:3 “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Just as snow doesn’t fall every day, God’s greatest miracles are often reserved for specific moments in our lives. While we may not always see them coming, there are signs to look for like watching the clouds and the temperature drop before a snowfall. In my life, I have learned to look for these signs and remain expectant of breakthrough. Like a child sitting by the window, eagerly waiting for the first snowflakes to fall, I too am perched in anticipation of the blessings He has in store.

So today, I praise God for His love and the beauty of creation. I celebrate the snow that transforms our surroundings and reflects His grace. As the world is covered in white, I am reminded of His promises and the miracles that await. Embrace the joy of this season, recognize the blessings that surround us, and remain expectant for the breakthroughs He has planned.
